This camping tour is a wilderness safari that allows you to share first hand the breathtaking scenery, traverse the pristine rivers and swim in crystal clear streams and waterfalls. Relax every evening around an open campfire and enjoy sleeping under the stars. We provide high profile Dome Tents, with sewn in floor and high density foam mattresses. Highlights of this tour include Cape Tribulation, Cooktown, Lakefield National Park, Iron Range National park, Batavia Gold Fields, Weipa, Fruit Bat Falls, Thursday island and Horn Island.  This tour travels with a driver guide as well a cook hostess to maximise your safety and individual time with the tour guide.

Itinerary

DAY 1 (LD) CAPE TRIBULATION, COOKTOWN.
Early morning pick up from Oz Tours selected locations as we travel via the beautiful coastal road until we cross the Daintree River and enter the majestic expanse of the World Heritage Cape Tribulation Rainforest. Over the Bloomfield track to historic Cooktown. Perhaps a chance to shop for souvenirs in original colonial era shops.
Overnight Cooktown with facilities.

DAY 2 (BLD) RINYIRRU (LAKEFIELD) NATIONAL PARK, MUSGRAVE TELEGRAPH STATION.
Assured of a unique place in the rich fabric of Australian history, Cooktown provides a visit of interest and excitement. Visit Cook's landing place, Grassy Hill Lookout and the century old cemetery. We travel via Battle Camp Ranges and Old Laura Station to Rinyirru (Lakefield) National Park. Experience living outback history as we approach Musgrave Telegraph Station, the last remaining telegraph station in Cape York. Overnight with facilities.

DAY 3 (BLD) COEN, ARCHER RIVER, KUTINI PAYAMU (IRON RANGE) NATIONAL PARK.
Via historic Coen we travel north to cross the wide sandy Archer River and after lunch we cross the Wenlock and Pascoe Rivers before entering Kutini Payamu National Park. This features the largest area of tropical lowland rainforest remaining in Australia. Rare fauna and flora include Cuscus, Palm Cockatoos, Eclectus Parrots, Green Pythons, palms and orchids. Overnight camp in Kutini-Payamu (Iron Range).

DAY 4 (BLD) PORTLAND ROADS, CHILLI BEACH, CHUULA
There is impressive coastal and mountain range scenery. Portland Roads, a former sea port, now affords the locals a relaxed lifestyle in an idyllic tropical setting. Visit Chilli Beach overlooking Restoration Island, Bligh's first landing site in 1792. Tonight we camp by the Wenlock River on the Chuulangun Homelands with facilities.

DAY 5 (BLD) BATAVIA, GOLDFIELDS, WEIPA.
Travel west to visit the old Batavia Gold Fields, an abandoned mining town. Then travel North by West across Piccaninny Plains and boundless savannah to Weipa, on the Gulf of Carpentaria. An "Oasis in the Wilderness" providing further contrast to your experience of this last frontier. Weipa Campground with facilities.

DAY 6 (BLD) WENLOCK RIVER, MORETON TELEGRAPH STATION.
This morning we have an Eco Boat Cruise included. Discover the waterways and diverse wildlife habitat, including saltwater Crocodiles, numerous bird species and mining history. With the Gulf of Carpentaria behind us, we pass through huge cattle runs to arrive at the fast flowing Wenlock River. Overnight permanent camp on the Wenlock River at Moreton Telegraph Station with facilities.

DAY 7 (BLD) FRUIT BAT FALLS, JARDINE RIVER, BAMAGA, LOYALTY BEACH.
Be awakened by the dawn chorus of birdlife endemic to the Wenlock River. Today's journey, travels sections of the old Telegraph Track through ever changing landscapes of zamias and heath forests to reach today's lunch destination, the picturesque Fruit Bat Falls on the Eliot River. Time to swim and explore or photograph the enchanting rock pools, and waterfalls. This afternoon we cross the Jardine River, followed by a short visit to Bamaga Aboriginal and Islander settlement then to Loyalty Beach overlooking the Torres Strait, our permanent base camp for 3 nights with facilities.

DAY 8 (BLD) THURSDAY ISLAND, HORN ISLAND.
Today's highlight is a ferry transfer through the island dotted Straits to explore historic Thursday Island and Horn Island. A conducted 2 island bus tour with lunch is included. Afternoon ferry return to mainland.

DAY 9 (BLD) CAPE YORK, SOMERSET.
An unforgettable day of achievement and interest. We stand at the very ‘Tip' of our continent. Visit the ruins of Pioneer settlement Somerset, overlooking Albany Passage with pristine beaches and rocky headlands.

DAY 10 (BL) CAIRNS.
Morning at leisure, before your transfer to Bamaga Airport after lunch for your flight back to Cairns. Your Oz Tours Adventure ends on arrival at Cairns Airport. Make your own way to your accommodation venue.

Deposit: For travel in 2018 the non refundable deposit is $500 per person.

Final Payments:  For travel in 2018 final payment is due at least 60 days prior to departure. Whilst prices could be subject to change without notice, upon final payment, all tour fares are fixed and not subject to change. For tours departing in less than 60 days, full and immediate payment is required.

Cancellations:

Bookings cancelled more than 60 or more days prior to departure are fully refunded less Non-refundable deposit, otherwise the following cancellation fees apply:

  • Between 59-30 days prior to tour 50% of fare forfeited
  • Less than 29 days prior to tour 100% of fare forfeited

Unused Tour Sectors: If a passenger fails to join a tour/safari or joins in after departure, or leaves it prior to completion, no refunds can be made. No refunds will be made in respect of any part of the tour including food, excursions, accommodation, etc., that are not used or undertaken.
