Itinerary - Fly/Drive (June, July, Aug, Sep, Oct)

DAY 1 (LD) HORN ISLAND.
Your tour begins with a morning flight to Horn Island. (Make your own way to Cairns domestic terminal) On arrival on Horn Island you will be met by a representative from the Gateway Torres Strait Resort. Lunch included, followed by a bus tour of the Island and Museum. Overnight accommodation with ensuite facilities.

DAY 2 (BD) THURSDAY ISLAND, PUNSAND BAY.
Morning Transfer by ferry to Thursday Island for a conducted bus tour of this historic Island is included. Lunch is own cost today. Mid-afternoon transfer to Seisia wharf then transfer to Punsand Bay Bay Private Reserve. 2 nights' accommodation with ensuite facilities.

DAY 3 (BLD) CAPE YORK, SOMERSET.
An unforgettable day of achievement and interest. We stand at the very ‘Tip' of our continent. Visit the ruins of the pioneer settlement Somerset, overlooking Albany Passage with pristine beaches and rocky headlands.

DAY 4 (BLD) JARDINE RIVER, FRUIT BAT FALLS,
MORETON TELEGRAPH STATION.
We cross the mighty Jardine River, through the wilderness of forests and heath to Fruit Bat Falls on the Eliot River for a cool dip in the rapids and waterfalls. Journey along parts of the old Telegraph Track while
absorbing the unfamiliar landscape of eucalyptus scrub, heathlands, plains and exotic zamia forests. Overnight accommodation 2 nights. Cabin Tent, Share facilities. Twin share fully screened tents with beds and linen. No power in tents.

DAY 5 (BLD) WEIPA, MORETON TELEGRAPH
STATION.

Maybe time for a guided nature walk along this lightly forested waterway before we cross the sandy Wenlock River. Travel south to Batavia Downs Station then detour west to the Gulf of Carpentaria through huge cattle runs and Aboriginal lands to the bauxite-mining town of Weipa. A veritable "Oasis in the Wilderness" and providing further contrast to your experience of this last frontier. Today we have an Eco Boat Cruise included. Discover the waterways and diverse wildlife habitat including saltwater Crocodiles, numerous bird species and mining history.

DAY 6 (BLD) COEN, MUSGRAVE TELEGRAPH STATION.
Today we travel south via the rolling landscape of Piccaninny Plains, crossing the Archer River and passing through Oyala Thumotang National Park. We visit historic Coen for lunch then onto our overnight stay at Musgrave Telegraph Station, the last remaining telegraph station in Cape York.
Overnight accommodation with share facilities.

DAY 7 (BLD) LAKEFIELD (RINYIRRU) NATIONAL
PARK, COOKTOWN.
We head east towards Princess Charlotte Bay and enter the massive bird and animal sanctuary of Lakefield National Park. The waterfowl teem in lily fringed billabongs and an opportunity to safely view crocodiles in their natural habitat. Travel over the legendary Battle Camp Range to historic Cooktown. An eventful afternoon sightseeing and viewing significant landmarks and sites so important to all Australians.
Overnight accommodation with ensuite facilities.

DAY 8 (BL) CAPE TRIBULATION, CAIRNS.
Crossing the Bloomfield River marks the start of our drive over the controversial "Bloomfield Track". Jungle green heights descend to the very edge of the Great Barrier Reef, with tantalising glimpses of deserted beaches and fringing coral. Through the famous World Heritage Rainforest, across the Daintree River, then via the scenic road to Cairns.
Your adventure ends with a transfer to Oz Tours selected locations.

We travel to Laura and visit the Quinkan Cultural Centre.  The township of Laura originally developed as a proposed rail link from Cooktown to the gold fields of the Palmerville and Maytown areas. The goldfields attracted a huge influx of miners of European and Chinese descent. Travelling through the Laura River basin we pass cattle stations to arrive at the cropping district of Lakeland Downs. Banana and watermelon farms are the growth industry here, then on to historic Cooktown. An eventful afternoon sightseeing and viewing significant landmarks and sites so important to all Australians. Overnight Cooktown with facilities.

DAY 8 (BL) CAPE TRIBULATION, CAIRNS.

Drive/Fly (Reverse Itinerary) - only departure 11th may 2018

DAY 1 (LD) CAPE TRIBULATION, COOKTOWN.
Early morning pick up from Oz Tours selected locations as we travel via the beautiful coastal road until we cross the Daintree River and enter the majestic expanse of the World Heritage Cape Tribulation Rainforest. Over the Bloomfield track to historic Cooktown. Perhaps a chance to shop for souvenirs in original colonial era shops. Overnight accommodation with ensuite facilities.

DAY 2 (BLD) COOKTOWN, LAURA, MUSGRAVE TELEGRAPH STATION.
Assured of a unique place in the rich fabric of Australian history, Cooktown provides a visit of interest and excitement. Visit Cook's landing place, Grassy Hill Lookout and the century old cemetery. We travel to Laura and visit the Quinkan Cultural Centre. Experience living outback history as we approach Musgrave Telegraph Station, the last remaining telegraph station in Cape York. Overnight accommodation with Share facilities.

DAY 3 (BLD) COEN, ARCHER RIVER, MORETON, TELEGRAPH STATION.
Via historic Coen we travel north to cross the wide sandy Archer River and after lunch travel via Piccaninny Plains and Batavia Downs Stations to arrive at Moreton a former Telegraph Station that carried the Morse code signal linking Brisbane to Thursday Island. Overnight accommodation 2 nights. Cabin Tent share facilities. Twin share fully screened tents with beds and linen. No power in tents.

DAY 4 (BLD) WEIPA, MORETON TELEGRAPH STATION.

Through huge cattle runs, travel west to arrive at the bauxite-mining town of Weipa on the Gulf of Carpentaria. A veritable "Oasis in the Wilderness" and providing further contrast to your experience of this last frontier. Today we have an Eco Boat cruise included. Discover the waterways and diverse wildlife habitat including saltwater Crocodiles, numerous bird species and mining history.


DAY 5 (BLD) FRUIT BAT FALLS, JARDINE RIVER, PUNSAND BAY.

Be awakened by the dawn chorus of birdlife endemic to the Wenlock River. Today's journey, travels sections of the old Telegraph Track through ever changing landscapes of zamias and heath forests to reach today's lunch destination the picturesque Fruit Bat Falls on the Eliot River. Time to swim and explore or photograph the enchanting rock pools, and waterfalls. This afternoon we cross the Jardine River, followed by a short visit to Bamaga Aboriginal and Islander settlement. Accommodation at Punsand Bay overlooking the Torres Strait. 3 nights' accommodation with ensuite facilities.

DAY 6 (BLD) THURSDAY ISLAND, HORN ISLAND.
Today's highlight is a ferry transfer through the island dotted Straits to explore historic Thursday Island and Horn Island. A conducted 2 island bus tour with lunch is included. Afternoon Ferry return to mainland.

DAY 7 (BLD) CAPE YORK, SOMERSET.

DAY 8 (BL) CAIRNS.
Morning at leisure before your transfer to Bamaga Airport after lunch for your flight to Cairns. Your Oz Tours Adventure ends on arrival at Cairns Airport. Make your own way to your accommodation venue.

Final Payments: For travel in 2018 final payment is due at least 60 days prior to departure. Whilst prices could be subject to change without notice, upon final payment, all tour fares are fixed and not subject to change. For tours departing in less than 60 days, full and immediate payment is required.

Cancellations

Bookings cancelled more than 60 or more days prior to departure are fully refunded less Non-refundable deposit, otherwise the following cancellation fees apply:

  • Between 59-30 days prior to tour 50% of fare forfeited
  • Less than 29 days prior to tour 100% of fare forfeited

Unused Tour Sectors: If a passenger fails to join a tour/safari or joins in after departure, or leaves it prior to completion, no refunds can be made. No refunds will be made in respect of any part of the tour including food, excursions, accommodation, etc., that are not used or undertaken.
