An incredible 12 Day Cape York Safari where you journey via 4WD from Cairns through to Cape York, with the inclusion of a unique cargo voyage back to Cairns. This accommodated tour is a wilderness safari that allows you to share first hand the breathtaking scenery, traverse the pristine rivers and creeks, isolated beach locations and rare flora and fauna. You will visit places such as Cooktown, Lakefield National park, Iron Range National Park, Weipa, Thursday Island and Horn Island.  Accommodation during this tour ranges from motels to "No Frill" cattle station cabins and cabin tent style accommodation.

Itinerary

DAY 1 (LD) CAPE TRIBULATION, COOKTOWN.
Early morning pick up from Oz Tours selected locations as we travel via the beautiful coastal road until we cross the Daintree River and enter the majestic expanse of the World Heritage Cape Tribulation Rainforest. Over the Bloomfield Track to historic Cooktown. Perhaps a chance to shop for souvenirs in original colonial era shops. Overnight accommodation with ensuite facilities.


DAY 2 (BLD) RINYIRRU (LAKEFIELD) NATIONAL PARK, MUSGRAVE TELEGRAPH STATION.
Assured of a unique place in the rich fabric of Australian history, Cooktown provides a visit of interest and excitement. Visit Cook's landing place, Grassy Hill Lookout and the century old cemetery. We travel via Battle Camp Ranges and Old Laura Station to Rinyirru (Lakefield) National Park. Experience living outback history as we approach Musgrave Telegraph Station, the last remaining telegraph station in Cape York. Overnight accommodation with share facilities.


DAY 3 (BLD) COEN, ARCHER RIVER, KUTINI  PAYAMU (IRON RANGE) NATIONAL PARK.
Via historic Coen we travel north to cross the wide sandy Archer River and after lunch we cross the Wenlock and Pascoe Rivers before entering Kutini Payamu National Park. This area features the largest area of tropical lowland rainforest remaining in Australia. Rare fauna and flora include Cuscus, Palm Cockatoos, Eclectus Parrots, Green Pythons, palms and orchids.
Overnight accommodation 2 nights. Unique bush style cabins with share facilities.

DAY 4 (BLD) PORTLAND ROADS, CHILLI BEACH, WW2 SITES
An exciting day visiting significant historic sites and breath-taking coastal scenery. Portland Roads, once a vital sea port for miners and the wartime airfields, now affords the locals a relaxed lifestyle in an idyllic tropical setting. Visit Chilli Beach overlooking Restoration Island, Bligh's first landing site in 1792. We explore and learn about the gold workings of the 1930's and the area around the airfield at Iron Range where there were major military installations. We also visit the renowned Lockhart River Aboriginal Art Centre and Quintel Beach overlooking Lloyd Bay.


DAY 5 (BLD) BATAVIA GOLDFIELDS, MORETON TELEGRAPH STATION.
Via scenic Tozers Gap travel west to visit the old Batavia Gold Fields, an abandoned mining town. Then travel North via Piccaninny Plains and Batavia Downs Station to arrive at Moreton a former Telegraph Station that carried the Morse code signal linking Brisbane to Thursday Island. Overnight accommodation 2 nights. Cabin Tent share facilities. Twin share fully screened tents with beds and linen. No power in tents.


DAY 6 (BLD) WEIPA, MORETON TELEGRAPH STATION, WENLOCK RIVER.
Through huge cattle runs, travel west to arrive at the bauxite-mining town of Weipa on the Gulf of Carpentaria. A veritable "Oasis in the Wilderness" and providing further contrast to your experience of this last frontier. Today we have an Eco Boat Cruise included. Discover the waterways and diverse wildlife habitat including saltwater Crocodiles, numerous bird species and mining history.


DAY 7 (BLD) FRUIT BAT FALLS, JARDINE RIVER, PUNSAND BAY.
Be awakened by the dawn chorus of birdlife endemic to the Wenlock River. Today's journey, travels sections of the old Telegraph Track through ever changing landscapes of zamias and heath forests to reach today's lunch destination the picturesque Fruit Bat Falls on the Eliot River. Time to swim and explore or photograph the enchanting rock pools, and waterfalls. This afternoon we cross the Jardine River, followed by a short visit to Bamaga Aboriginal and Islander settlement. Accommodation at Punsand Bay overlooking the Torres Strait. 3 nights' accommodation with ensuite facilities.


DAY 8 (BLD) THURSDAY ISLAND, HORN ISLAND.
Today's highlight is a ferry transfer through the island dotted Straits to explore historic Thursday Island and Horn Island. A conducted 2 island bus tour with lunch is included. Afternoon Ferry return to mainland.

DAY 9 (BLD) CAPE YORK, SOMERSET.
An unforgettable day of achievement and interest. We stand at the very ‘Tip' of our continent, Visit the ruins of the pioneer settlement Somerset, overlooking Albany Passage with pristine beaches and rocky headlands.

DAY 10 (BLD) SEISIA, COMMENCE SEA-LEG.
The focus of all attention today is Seisia wharf, where the cargo ship from Cairns disgorge their cargo of fuel, building materials, indeed everything needed by the local communities. At 80 meters and over 3000 tonnes the Trinity Bay is the largest cargo ship servicing the Torres Strait communities.

DAY 11 (BLD) GREAT BARRIER REEF MARINE PARK.
Total relaxation as you enjoy the company of the crew and new shipboard companions.

DAY 12 (B) DISEMBARK CAIRNS.
Your Oz Tours Adventure ends on arrival at Trinity Wharf Cairns. Make your own way to your accommodation venue

MV "Trinity Bay" requires passengers to complete a Passenger Medical Information Form to advise the crew of any medical issues they may need to be aware of. This information will also be used by medical attendants in the event of a medical emergency or accident.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
    • There is no doctor on the vessel, only trained first-aid personnel.
    • Passengers should consider their suitability for travel to a remote area and for managing cargo-ship conditions such as: engine noise, steep staircases, high door step-overs, awkward gangway access, the possibility of a cabin without a porthole and the possibility of rough weather or a potential emergency situation. An appropriate level of health and confident, independent mobility is essential.

Deposit: For travel in 2018 the non refundable deposit is $500 per person.

Final Payments:  For travel in 2018 final payment is due at least 60 days prior to departure. Whilst prices could be subject to change without notice, upon final payment, all tour fares are fixed and not subject to change. For tours departing in less than 60 days, full and immediate payment is required.

Cancellations:

Bookings cancelled more than 60 or more days prior to departure are fully refunded less Non-refundable deposit, otherwise the following cancellation fees apply:

  • Between 59-30 days prior to tour 50% of fare forfeited
  • Less than 29 days prior to tour 100% of fare forfeited

Unused Tour Sectors: If a passenger fails to join a tour/safari or joins in after departure, or leaves it prior to completion, no refunds can be made. No refunds will be made in respect of any part of the tour including food, excursions, accommodation, etc., that are not used or undertaken.
