This amazing 12 Day Tour combines the excitement of a cargo ship voyage between Cairns and Cape York with the adventure of a Cape York Safari. In a style reminiscent of bygone coastal steamers, experience the colour and serenity of a Barrier Reef voyage, the magic of the Daintree, the magnificent isolation of the Peninsula wilderness and the diverse cultures of the Cape and Torres Straits. Your 4WD overland part of your tour will journey through the vast wilderness visiting places such as Sommerset, Fruit Bat Falls, Jardine River, Weipa, Lakefield National Park and Cooktown. We provide high profile Dome Tents, with sewn in floor and high density foam mattresses. This tour travels with a driver guide as well a cook hostess to maximise your safety and individual time with the tour guide.

Itinerary

DAY 1 (LD) CAPE TRIBULATION, COOKTOWN.
Early morning pick up from Oz Tours selected locations as we travel via the beautiful coastal road until we cross the Daintree River and enter the majestic expanse of the World Heritage Cape Tribulation Rainforest. Over the Bloomfield track to historic Cooktown. Perhaps a chance to shop for souvenirs in original colonial era shops.
Overnight Cooktown with facilities.

DAY 2 (BLD) RINYIRRU (LAKEFIELD) NATIONAL PARK, MUSGRAVE TELEGRAPH STATION.
Assured of a unique place in the rich fabric of Australian history, Cooktown provides a visit of interest and excitement. Visit Cook's landing place, Grassy Hill Lookout and the century old cemetery. We travel via Battle Camp Ranges and Old Laura Station to Rinyirru (Lakefield) National Park. Experience living outback history as we approach Musgrave Telegraph Station, the last remaining telegraph station in Cape York. Overnight with facilities.

DAY 3 (BLD) COEN, ARCHER RIVER, KUTINI PAYAMU (IRON RANGE) NATIONAL PARK.
Via historic Coen we travel north to cross the wide sandy Archer River and after lunch we cross the Wenlock and Pascoe Rivers before entering Kutini Payamu National Park. This features the largest area of tropical lowland rainforest remaining in Australia. Rare fauna and flora include Cuscus, Palm Cockatoos, Eclectus Parrots, Green Pythons, palms and orchids. Overnight camp in Kutini-Payamu (Iron Range).

DAY 4 (BLD) PORTLAND ROADS, CHILLI BEACH, CHUULA.

There is impressive coastal and mountain range scenery. Portland Roads, a former sea port, now affords the locals a relaxed lifestyle in an idyllic tropical setting. Visit Chilli Beach overlooking Restoration Island, Bligh's first landing site in 1792. Tonight we camp by the Wenlock River on the Chuulangun Homelands, with facilities.

DAY 5 (BLD) BATAVIA, GOLDFIELDS, WEIPA.
Travel west to visit the old Batavia Gold Fields, an abandoned mining town. Then travel North by West across Piccaninny Plains and boundless savannah to Weipa, on the Gulf of Carpentaria. An "Oasis in the wilderness" providing further contrast to your experience of this last frontier. Weipa Campground with facilities.

DAY 6 (BLD) WENLOCK RIVER, MORETON TELEGRAPH STATION.
This morning we have an Eco Boat Cruise included. Discover the waterways and diverse wildlife habitat, including saltwater Crocodiles, numerous bird species and mining history. With the Gulf of Carpentaria behind us, we pass through huge cattle runs to arrive at the fast flowing Wenlock River. Overnight permanent camp on the Wenlock River at Moreton Telegraph Station with facilities.

DAY 7 (BLD) FRUIT BAT FALLS, JARDINE RIVER, BAMAGA, LOYALTY BEACH.
Be awakened by the dawn chorus of birdlife endemic to the Wenlock River. Today's journey, travels sections of the old Telegraph Track through ever changing landscapes of zamias and heath forests to reach today's lunch destination the picturesque Fruit Bat Falls on the Eliot River. Time to swim and explore or photograph the enchanting rock pools, and waterfalls. This afternoon we cross the Jardine River, followed by a short visit to Bamaga Aboriginal and Islander settlement then to Loyalty Beach overlooking the Torres Strait, our permanent base camp for 3 nights with facilities.

DAY 8 (BLD) THURSDAY ISLAND, HORN ISLAND.
Today's highlight is a ferry transfer through the island dotted Straits to explore historic Thursday Island and Horn Island. A conducted 2 island bus tour with lunch is included. Afternoon ferry return to mainland.

DAY 9 (BLD) CAPE YORK, SOMERSET.
An unforgettable day of achievement and interest. We stand at the very ‘Tip' of our continent. Visit the ruins of pioneer settlement Somerset, overlooking Albany Passage with pristine beaches and rocky headlands.

DAY 10 (BLD) SEISIA, COMMENCE SEA-LEG.
The focus of all attention today is Seisia wharf, where the cargo ship from Cairns disgorge their cargo of fuel, building materials, indeed everything needed by the local communities. At 80 meters and over 3000 tonnes the Trinity Bay is the largest cargo ship servicing the Torres Strait communities.

DAY 11 (BLD) GREAT BARRIER REEF MARINE PARK.
Total relaxation as you enjoy the company of the crew and new shipboard companions.

DAY 12 (B) DISEMBARK CAIRNS.
Your Oz Tours Adventure ends on arrival at Trinity Wharf Cairns. Make your own way to your accommodation venue.

MV "Trinity Bay" requires passengers to complete a Passenger Medical Information Form to advise the crew of any medical issues they may need to be aware of. This information will also be used by medical attendants in the event of a medical emergency or accident.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
    • There is no doctor on the vessel, only trained first-aid personnel.
    • Passengers should consider their suitability for travel to a remote area and for managing cargo-ship conditions such as: engine noise, steep staircases, high door step-overs, awkward gangway access, the possibility of a cabin without a porthole and the possibility of rough weather or a potential emergency situation. An appropriate level of health and confident, independent mobility is essential.

Deposit: For travel in 2018 the non refundable deposit is $500 per person.

Final Payments:  For travel in 2018 final payment is due at least 60 days prior to departure. Whilst prices could be subject to change without notice, upon final payment, all tour fares are fixed and not subject to change. For tours departing in less than 60 days, full and immediate payment is required.

Cancellations:

Bookings cancelled more than 60 or more days prior to departure are fully refunded less Non-refundable deposit, otherwise the following cancellation fees apply:

  • Between 59-30 days prior to tour 50% of fare forfeited
  • Less than 29 days prior to tour 100% of fare forfeited

Unused Tour Sectors: If a passenger fails to join a tour/safari or joins in after departure, or leaves it prior to completion, no refunds can be made. No refunds will be made in respect of any part of the tour including food, excursions, accommodation, etc., that are not used or undertaken.
