This amazing 12 Day Tour combines the excitement of a cargo ship voyage between Cairns and Cape York with the adventure of a Cape York Safari. In a style reminiscent of bygone coastal steamers, experience the colour and serenity of a Barrier Reef voyage, the magic of the Daintree, the magnificent isolation of the Peninsula wilderness and the diverse cultures of the Cape and Torres Straits. Your 4WD overland part of your tour will journey through the vast wilderness visiting places such as Sommerset, Twin Falls, Telegraph Road, Weipa, Archer River, Musgrave and Cooktown. We provide high profile Dome Tents, with sewn in floor and high density foam mattresses. This tour travels with a driver guide as well a cook hostess to maximise your safety and individual time with the tour guide.

DAY 1 (D) - Depart Cairns, M.V. "Trinity Bay".
Your tour begins approx Mid-day from Trinity Wharf , Make your own way to wharf.(Check with office for wharf number). At 80 metres and over 3000 tonnes the Trinity Bay is the largest cargo vessel servicing the Torres Strait communities.

DAY 2 (BLD) - Great Barrier Reef Marine Park.
Total relaxation as you enjoy the company of the crew and ship board companions.

DAY 3 (BLD) - Thursday Island, Horn Island, "Barge Day".
The focus of all attention today is the wharves on Thursday & Horn Islands as the MV Trinity Bay disgorges its cargo of fuel, building materials, indeed everything needed by these remote island communities. Time to explore legendary Thursday Island. (Conducted bus tour at own cost).

DAY 4 (BLD) - Seisia, Bamaga, Loyalty Beach.
Another "barge day" but at Seisia wharf, the sea port for Bamaga's five aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. Transfer to Loyalty Beach, our northern base camp for two nights.

DAY 5 (BLD) - Cape York, Somerset.
An unforgettable day of achievement and interest. We stand at the very tip of our continent. Visit the ruins of Somerset, (Roads permitting) with pristine beaches and rocky headlands.

DAY 6 (BLD) - Cape York, Twin Falls
We cross the mighty Jardine River, through the wilderness of forests and heath to Twin Falls and a cooling dip in the rapids and waterfalls before setting up camp in this unique spot. Basic camp facilities.

DAY 7 (BLD) - Telegraph Road, Wenlock River.
An exciting day negotiating river crossings and bush roads, while absorbing the unfamiliar landscape of eucalyptus scrub, heathlands, plains and exotic zamia forests. Camp on the Wenlock River at Moreton Telegraph Station. Campground facilities

DAY 8 (BD) - Weipa.
Travel south to Batavia Downs Station then west to the Gulf of Carpentaria through huge cattle runs and Aboriginal tribal lands to the bauxite mining town of Weipa. (Lunch at own cost). Today you have a choice of an optional Weipa Mine Tour, or an Eco Boat tour (own cost).

DAY 9 (BLD) - Archer River, Coen, Port Stewart.
Across rolling Picaninny Plains, before a pause at the wide sandy Archer River. We visit historic Coen before heading to Port Stewart, a former sea port for the Ebagoolah, Coen and Batavia Goldfields. We virtually travel the entire length of the Stewart River - a recently declared Wild River due to its intact and healthy river system. We explore Port Stewart, a natural and culturally significant place, also the traditional homelands of the Lama Lama Aboriginal People. Overnight Yintjingga campground with facilities.

DAY 10 (BLD) - Musgrave, Lakefield National Park.
Learn about the Lama Lama Rangers work to assess and document the natural and cultural values and threats, and how they maintain these values. We venture West then South to arrive at Musgrave, the last remaining Telegraph Station in Cape York. East towards the Coral Sea to arrive at the massive wildlife haven, Lakefield National Park.

DAY 11 (BD) - Cooktown.
Continuing through Lakefield, past Old Laura Station and over the rugged Battlecamp Range to historic Cooktown. An eventful day of sightseeing and viewing significant landmarks and sites so important to all Australians. Overnight Cooktown - Campground facilities

DAY 12 (BL) - Daintree Rainforest, Cairns.
Over the jungle shrouded heights of the Bloomfield Track to enter the majestic expanse of the World Heritage Rainforest. Jungle heights descend to the very edge of the Great Barrier Reef with views of deserted beaches and fringing coral. Across the Daintree River by cable ferry and via the scenic coast road back to Cairns. Your Oz Tours Adventure ends with a transfer to selected locations.

MV "Trinity Bay" requires passengers to complete a Passenger Medical Information Form to advise the crew of any medical issues they may need to be aware of. This information will also be used by medical attendants in the event of a medical emergency or accident.
    • There is no doctor on the vessel, only trained first-aid personnel.
    • Passengers should consider their suitability for travel to a remote area and for managing cargo-ship conditions such as: engine noise, steep staircases, high door step-overs, awkward gangway access, the possibility of a cabin without a porthole and the possibility of rough weather or a potential emergency situation. An appropriate level of health and confident, independent mobility is essential. 


Deposit: For travel in 2017 the non refundable deposit is $500 per person.

Final Payments:  For travel in 2017 final payment is due at least 60 days prior to departure. Whilst prices could be subject to change without notice, upon final payment, all tour fares are fixed and not subject to change. For tours departing in less than 60 days, full and immediate payment is required.


Bookings cancelled more than 60 or more days prior to departure are fully refunded less Non-refundable deposit, otherwise the following cancellation fees apply:

  • Between 59-30 days prior to tour 50% of fare forfeited
  • Less than 29 days prior to tour 100% of fare forfeited

Unused Tour Sectors: If a passenger fails to join a tour/safari or joins in after departure, or leaves it prior to completion, no refunds can be made. No refunds will be made in respect of any part of the tour including food, excursions, accommodation, etc., that are not used or undertaken.
