This camping tour is a wilderness safari that allows you to share first hand the breathtaking scenery, traverse the pristine rivers and swim in crystal clear streams and waterfalls. It also combines a unique cargo ship voyage between Cairns and Cape York.  Relax every evening around an open campfire and enjoy sleeping under the stars. We provide high profile Dome Tents, with sewn in floor and high density foam mattresses. Highlights of this tour include Cape Tribulation, Cooktown, Lakefield National Park, Weipa, Fruit Bat Falls, Thursday island and Horn Island.  This tour travels with a driver guide as well a cook hostess to maximise your safety and individual time with the tour guide.

DAY 1 (D) DEPART CAIRNS, MV TRINITY BAY.
Your journey starts from Cairns Wharf. Check with our office for Wharf numbers and times. (Make your own way to the Wharf) At 80 metres and over 3000 tonnes the Trinity Bay is the largest cargo vessel ship servicing the Torres Strait communities.

DAY 2 (BLD) GREAT BARRIER REEF MARINE PARK.
Total relaxation as you enjoy the company of the crew and new shipboard companions.

DAY 3 (BLD) THURSDAY ISLAND, HORN ISLAND.
The focus of all attention today is the wharves on Thursday and Horn Island as the MV Trinity Bay disgorges its cargo of fuel, building materials, indeed everything needed by these remote island communities. Explore legendary Thursday Island and Horn island (at own cost).

DAY 4 (BLD) SEISIA, BAMAGA, LOYALTY BEACH.
Our final Shipboard day ends at Seisia wharf, the sea port for Cape York's five aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. A short stop at Seisia Islander Settlement, then to Loyalty Beach overlooking the Torres Strait, our permanent base camp for two nights with facilities.

DAY 5 (BLD) CAPE YORK, SOMERSET.
An unforgettable day of achievement and interest. We stand at the very ‘Tip' of our continent. Visit the ruins of the pioneer settlement Somerset overlooking Albany Passage with pristine beaches and rocky headlands.

DAY 6 (BLD) FRUIT BAT FALLS, MORETON TELEGRAPH STATION.
We cross the mighty Jardine River, through the wilderness of forests and heath to Fruit Bat Falls on the Eliot River for a cool dip in the rapids and waterfalls. Journey along parts of the old Telegraph Track while
absorbing the unfamiliar landscape of eucalyptus scrub, heathlands, plains and exotic zamia forests. Overnight permanent camp on the Wenlock River at Moreton Telegraph Station with facilities.

DAY 7 (BD) WEIPA.
Travel south to Batavia Downs Station then west to the Gulf of Carpentaria through huge cattle runs and Aboriginal lands to the bauxite mining town of Weipa. Lunch own cost. Today we have an Eco boat cruise included. Discover the waterways and diverse wildlife habitat including saltwater crocodiles, numerous bird species and mining history.
Overnight Weipa Campground with facilities.

DAY 8 (BLD) ARCHER RIVER, COEN, MUSGRAVE TELEGRAPH STATION.
We cross the rolling Piccaninny Plains before a pause at Archer River. We visit historic Coen before heading to Musgrave Telegraph Station, the last remaining telegraph station in Cape York. Overnight at Musgrave Campground with facilities.

DAY 9 (BLD) RINYIRRU (LAKEFIELD) NATIONAL PARK, COOKTOWN
We head east towards Princess Charlotte Bay and enter the massive bird and animal sanctuary of Lakefield National Park. The waterfowl teem in lily fringed billabongs and an opportunity to safely view crocodiles in their natural habitat. Travel over the legendary Battle Camp Range to historic Cooktown. An eventful afternoon sightseeing and viewing significant landmarks and sites so important to all Australians.
Overnight Cooktown with facilities.

DAY 10 (BL) CAPE TRIBULATION, CAIRNS.
Crossing the Bloomfield River marks the start of our drive over the controversial "Bloomfield Track". Jungle green heights descend to the very edge of the Great Barrier Reef, with tantalising glimpses of deserted beaches and fringing coral. Through the famous World Heritage Rainforest, across the Daintree River, then via the scenic road to Cairns
Your adventure ends with a transfer to Oz Tours selected locations.

We travel to Laura and visit the Quinkan Cultural Centre.
The township of Laura originally developed as a proposed rail link from Cooktown to the gold fields of the Palmerville and Maytown areas. The goldfields attracted a huge influx of miners of European and Chinese descent. Travelling through the Laura River basin we pass cattle stations to arrive at the cropping district of Lakeland Downs. Banana and watermelon farms are the growth industry here, then on to historic Cooktown. An eventful afternoon sightseeing and viewing significant landmarks and sites so important to all Australians. Overnight Cooktown with facilities.

DAY 10 (BL) CAPE TRIBULATION, CAIRNS.
Crossing the Bloomfield River marks the start of our drive over the controversial "Bloomfield Track". Reverse Itinerary - Drive/Sea (May)

DAY 1 (LD) CAPE TRIBULATION, COOKTOWN.
Early morning pick up from Oz Tours selected locations as we travel via the beautiful coastal road until we cross the Daintree River and enter the majestic expanse of the World Heritage Cape Tribulation Rainforest. Over the Bloomfield track to historic Cooktown. Perhaps a chance to shop for souvenirs in original colonial era shops.
Overnight Cooktown with facilities.

DAY 2 (BLD) COOKTOWN, LAURA, MUSGRAVE TELEGRAPH STATION.
Assured of a unique place in the rich fabric of Australian history, Cooktown provides a visit of interest and excitement. Visit Cook's landing place, Grassy Hill Lookout and the century old cemetery. We travel to Laura and visit the Quinkan Cultural Centre. Experience living outback history as we approach Musgrave Telegraph Station, the last remaining telegraph station in Cape York. Overnight with facilities.


DAY 3 (BLD) COEN, ARCHER RIVER, WEIPA.
A historic interlude as we visit the once vibrant gold rush town of Coen. Passing through Oyala Thumotang National Park, before a rest stop at the Archer River. Across Piccaninny Plains and boundless savannah to Weipa, on the Gulf of Carpentaria. A veritable "Oasis in the Wilderness" and providing further contrast to your experience of this last frontier. Weipa Campground with facilities.


DAY 4 (BLD) WENLOCK RIVER, MORETON TELEGRAPH STATION.
This morning we have an Eco Boat Cruise included. Discover the waterways and diverse wildlife habitat, including saltwater Crocodiles, numerous bird species and mining history. With the Gulf of Carpentaria behind us, we pass through huge cattle runs to arrive at the fast flowing Wenlock River. Our overnight permanent camp on the Wenlock River at Moreton Telegraph Station with facilities.

DAY 5 (BLD) FRUIT BAT FALLS, JARDINE RIVER, BAMAGA, LOYALTY BEACH.
Be awakened by the dawn chorus of birdlife endemic to the Wenlock River. Today's journey, travels sections of the old Telegraph Track through ever changing landscapes of zamias and heath forests to reach today's lunch destination the picturesque Fruit Bat Falls on the Eliot River. Time to swim and explore or photograph the enchanting rock pools, and waterfalls. This afternoon we cross the Jardine River, followed by a short visit to Bamaga Aboriginal and Islander settlement then to Loyalty Beach overlooking the Torres Strait, our permanent base camp for 3 nights with facilities.

DAY 6 (BLD) THURSDAY ISLAND, HORN ISLAND.
Today's highlight is a ferry transfer through the island dotted Straits to explore historic Thursday Island and Horn Island. A conducted 2 island bus tour with lunch is included. Afternoon ferry return to mainland.

DAY 7 (BLD) CAPE YORK, SOMERSET.

DAY 10 (B) DISEMBARK CAIRNS.
Your Oz Tours Adventure ends on arrival at Trinity Wharf Cairns. Make your own way to your accommodation venue.

MV "Trinity Bay" requires passengers to complete a Passenger Medical Information Form to advise the crew of any medical issues they may need to be aware of. This information will also be used by medical attendants in the event of a medical emergency or accident.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
    • There is no doctor on the vessel, only trained first-aid personnel.
    • Passengers should consider their suitability for travel to a remote area and for managing cargo-ship conditions such as: engine noise, steep staircases, high door step-overs, awkward gangway access, the possibility of a cabin without a porthole and the possibility of rough weather or a potential emergency situation. An appropriate level of health and confident, independent mobility is essential.

Deposit: For travel in 2018 the non refundable deposit amount is $500 per person.

Final Payments: For travel in 2018 final payment is due at least 60 days prior to departure. Whilst prices could be subject to change without notice, upon final payment, all tour fares are fixed and not subject to change. For tours departing in less than 60 days, full and immediate payment is required.

Cancellations

Bookings cancelled more than 60 or more days prior to departure are fully refunded less Non-refundable deposit, otherwise the following cancellation fees apply:

  • Between 59-30 days prior to tour 50% of fare forfeited
  • Less than 29 days prior to tour 100% of fare forfeited

Unused Tour Sectors: If a passenger fails to join a tour/safari or joins in after departure, or leaves it prior to completion, no refunds can be made. No refunds will be made in respect of any part of the tour including food, excursions, accommodation, etc., that are not used or undertaken.
